quilted-sun asked: I love your shoe designs :) Im hoping to put my sharpie art on shoes soon but what shoes do you use? I saw that you used Toms but what are the other pairs? And are they cheap?
Thank you!! Yes, they are cheap! The ones with laces are usually from Target. They’re about $12, which is less than half the cost of a nearly identical pair of white Vans. The ones without laces (that aren’t Toms) are from Walmart and they’re around $10 I think, but go out of stock quickly.
salvatores-and-winchesters asked: Hi! Sorry if this is a dumb question but i saw that you did some canvas shoes with sharpies, and i was wondering... how did you preserve them so the sharpie wouldn't run or so water wouldn't mess them up? I have scotch guard to spray mine with, but i'm worried that it will make the colors run. thanks so much!
Hi! That’s not a dumb question at all. Unfortunately I haven’t found a good way to completely waterproof them. If you let the sharpie ink set for a few weeks, they’ll hold up pretty well in rainy conditions (as long as you’re not running through big puddles or caught in a downpour). They tend to hold up better if there is no white left on the shoe because there’s no empty canvas for it to bleed into. I have experimented with scotch guard and I do NOT recommend it; it makes the ink run all over the place!
Steelers heels I made for a lady that my mom works with. They weren’t made of canvas but she insisted that I try anyways… and they bled a lot more than usual, as I expected. Oh well.
